What is resistance welding

Resistance welding: It is contact welding.

Resistance welding is also called contact welding. Resistance welding takes the form of spot welding, projection welding, seam welding, and butt welding. Resistance welding has high productivity and is easy to implement mechanization and automation. However, the required welding machines are complex and consume large amounts of power, and are mainly used for mass production.

Resistance welding is a welding method that uses resistance heat generated by current passing through the weldment and its contact to locally heat the weldment to a plastic or molten state, and then form a welded joint under pressure.

Resistance welding is divided into three forms

Resistance welding is divided into three forms: spot welding, seam welding, and butt welding:

1. Spot welding

Spot welding is a welding method that uses cylindrical electrodes to pressurize and energize to form welding spots between the contact surfaces of overlapping workpieces.

2. Butt welding

Butt welding is a method that uses resistance heat to weld two workpieces across the entire contact surface. According to different welding operation methods, it can be divided into resistance butt welding and flash butt welding.

3. Seam welding

The seam welding process is similar to spot welding, except that a rotating disc electrode is used instead of a cylindrical electrode. During welding, the disc-shaped electrode presses the weldment and rotates (also driving the weldment to move forward) and cooperates with the intermittent power supply to form continuous overlapping solder joints. Hence, it is called seam welding. Seam welding is a variation of spot welding.

summary

Resistance brazing is widely used, especially for brazing of some welds that do not allow overall heating. For example, in the case of pure aluminum conductor wire gauge and product structure characteristics for motor windings, a brazed lap joint of the pure aluminum conductor was designed, and visual inspection, macroscopic metallography, Vickers hardness, surface brazing rate, tensile properties, DC resistance, and power-on temperature rise were tested.

In short, resistance brazing is a brazing technology combined with resistance thermal heating, which brazing engineers and enthusiasts widely used in the electronics industry.
