Key Production Process Points and Precision Processing Applications for Brass Sheets and Strips

As indispensable foundational materials in modern industry, the performance and quality of brass plates and strips are directly determined by the rigor of their production processes. In the manufacturing process, ingot heating is a primary and critical stage. Since high-zinc brass is highly susceptible to "dezincification" at elevated temperatures-and given that certain complex brass alloys harbor significant casting stresses-rapid high-temperature heating is generally unsuitable for most brass varieties. In practice, the furnace atmosphere is typically maintained in a slightly oxidizing state to effectively prevent excessive surface oxidation, thereby providing a high-quality raw material base for subsequent CNC turning operations.

Upon entering the hot rolling stage, different grades of brass exhibit vastly different physical properties. For instance, high-zinc brass precipitates a brittle β-phase alongside the α-phase at high temperatures; consequently, the brittle temperature range must be precisely avoided during hot rolling to prevent cracking. In contrast, simple low-zinc brasses (such as H96 and H90) possess excellent plasticity and can be hot-rolled over a wide temperature range. Conversely, complex brasses-such as leaded brass-have limited high-temperature plasticity and a narrower hot-rolling temperature window, necessitating rapid rolling and close monitoring of temperature drops during production. This precise control over material characteristics is a critical factor considered during the material selection phase for high-precision brass turning processes.

In the subsequent cold rolling and forming stage, differences in material plasticity also dictate processing strategies. Simple brasses exhibit excellent plasticity, allowing for a reduction rate (degree of deformation) easily exceeding 75%; however, most complex brasses have poorer plasticity, with some materials achieving reduction rates of less than 50%. Therefore, sufficient margins must be factored into the design of the total reduction rate to avoid defects such as edge cracking or strip breakage during rolling. High-quality brass CNC machining service providers ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the final material through strict control of the cold rolling process.

Heat treatment (annealing) is a crucial step for eliminating work hardening and restoring material plasticity. Certain brass alloys (such as HPb59-1 and H62) are highly sensitive to internal stress and must undergo annealing within 24 hours of cold working to prevent spontaneous cracking or deformation caused by excessive stress. For high-zinc brass, the annealing temperature should be kept at the lower end of the range to prevent "pitting" or rough surface defects caused by high-temperature dezincification. Additionally, since zinc acts as a degassing agent during brass casting, the hydrogen content in the protective annealing atmosphere can be slightly higher than that used for pure copper. This precise control of heat treatment is essential for the successful implementation of brass CNC milling processes.

In the final cleaning and finishing stages, the setting of process parameters also requires extreme care. When pickling brass, the acid concentration and duration must be strictly controlled to prevent "dezincification" caused by over-pickling. Furthermore, hard and half-hard high-zinc brass products should not undergo repeated straightening after processing; if such straightening is necessary, stress-relief annealing must be performed promptly. These rigorous manufacturing standards not only test the technical capabilities of brass CNC machining parts manufacturers but also ensure the superior performance of brass sheet and strip materials during subsequent precision machining.

Our Machine Workshop Equipment for Brass machined parts

As modern manufacturing increasingly demands higher precision for components, brass has become widely used in the production of various precision parts. From conductive terminals in the electronics and electrical sectors to precision structural components in mechanical equipment, high-quality brass is an essential material. Through advanced brass CNC machining technology, manufacturers can transform brass sheet and strip materials into components characterized by exceptional dimensional accuracy and superior surface quality. This process leverages the inherent advantages of brass-such as excellent machinability and high wear resistance-to meet the rigorous standards of high-end industries like aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and precision instrumentation.

To meet the fast-paced production demands of modern industry, rapid CNC machining technology for brass parts has seen widespread adoption. Machining cycles have been significantly shortened through the optimization of tool paths, increased spindle speeds, and the use of advanced cooling systems. This not only reduces manufacturing costs but also enhances the cost-effectiveness of brass parts in a competitive market, thereby driving the adoption of brass materials across an expanding range of emerging sectors.

Finally, continuous innovation in brass turning processes is constantly pushing the boundaries of brass material applications. From traditional, simple structural components to today's highly complex, miniature precision assemblies, brass holds a pivotal position in modern industry thanks to its unique combination of properties. Looking ahead, as environmental standards rise and machining technologies advance, the development and application of lead-free brass and new free-machining brass alloys will create fresh opportunities for the precision manufacturing industry.
